TWISTED (title of story)

Chapter 1: Farmer

The green leaves on the trees were blowing in the wind, causing them to fall to the ground. The dew of spring caressed the small island in the early morning. I could feel the wind on my back, and the sun on my head as they brushed against my skin. The island was lively that day, as the morning rays struck down to the ground and I could sense vibes of peace from the villagers. They all had gathered in Meadow Island. Sheep walked around, grazing on the grassy earth. Mirabelle, the judge and founder of the festival, stood behind a counter in the center of the island, talking to villagers and people competing in the best sheep contest.

I sat under a tree farther away from the crowd, enjoying the shade instead of the hot spring sun. My eyes were heavy from the lack of sleep the night before, and my arms were crossed across my chest. I had a great start on the island. After being shipwrecked with Taro and his family, we had decided without hesitation to start a village on the island. I ran the farm, while Taro, Felicia, Natalie and Elliot advertised and dealt with newcomers wanting to built shops or live on the island. First came Chen and his son Charlie, then Gannon, and pretty soon, the village was filled with people, both residents and visitors. My duty at the beginning was to raise islands with sun stones and in doing so, more people would appear. This was true, for the more island I raised, the more people came to the island. Eventually, every island had been raised, and the once grand village was fully restored.

The memories of the past two years were ringing through my head, and I smiled as I remebered my friends and the first time we all met. Julia and Mirabelle had come not long after we had started to bring to bring the islands back to life. There was a knock at my door one morning, around the 12th of Spring and I opened it to see a slightly plump, oranged hair lady with her very beautiful daughter. "Hello" The lady had said with a smile. "My name's Mirabelle and this is my daughter Julia" She had gestured to the girl beside her who chuckled. "Nice to meet you"

"We will be running an animal farm so you can buy animals and feed. We hope to see you soon"

I had nodded my head and stuck out my hand so we could shake. "I'm Chelsea, the farmer"

The meeting of my first best friend was the happiest memory I had. Julia and I had clicked pretty quickly, because our similar personalities. Soon after Julia and I joined the best friends forever club, Natalie followed, along with Lanna and pretty soon the four of us were the happiest anyone could ever be. Sabrina, another girl in our village, would avoid us pretty much twenty-four seven. The four of us jumped to the conclusion that (a) She was rude, obnoxious and stuck up OR (b) She hated immature girls.

I didn't mind, and neither did the other girls, so we just shrugged it off and continued with our happy lifestyle. Julia would often come over, and sleep on my couch without my permission. I didn't mind at all, in fact it was thrilling for me to spend time with my best friend. What annoyed me was that she'd always do it without me knowing until I woke the next morning and stepped on her finger. On the weekends, we would sleepover at someone's house. We usually took turns inviting each other over. The first week it was Julia, the second Lanna, the third me and the fourth Natalie. We would often gossip, and question each other about crushes and rumours going around town. Then we'd eat a ton of candy and fall asleep watching cheesy romance movies and chick flicks.

Life had given me the best of everything, and I felt that it was perfect. But there was one thing which I knew wasn't overally great, and that was my love life. Every guy in my town had a crush on someone, that is, everyone except Shea and Vaughn. Shea was a native living with Wada in the jungle, but Vaughn was an anti-social grumpy guy who referred to himself as an "animal dealer". Everyday, except Monday's and Tuesday's, he'd be in the city doing work, herding animals, filling out forms, all that junk. Julia had always been confused, because Vaughn was more of "keep to myself" guy yet he went to a busy place with over a couple million people. I guess no one on the island understand Vaughn at all, especially me.

As the seasons had gone by, I started to realize that maybe there was more to this anti-social comboy than anybody else thought. Everyone seemed to leave him to do his own business, and the thought of being along had always bugged me. Every person has some sort of craving to belong, but what made this guy different? What made him strong enough to stand alone? What made him WANT to be alone? I knew digging into someone's past was a bad idea, because it leads to mistrust and high tension between the two people. But for some reason, I wanted to know. I wanted to unmask the face and look into the heart of the man who seemed heartless. I wanted to wipe off the frown and replace it with a smile. I wanted to get to know him. I wanted to be his friend.

This proved to be harder than I had ever thought. With every conversation I tried to have with him, he seemed to distance himself farther and farther away from me. With every "hi" and "hello" things only got worse. Eventually, after trying for a couple seasons, I gave up because I had grown impatient and angered by his attitude towards me. Thus for the remainder of my time raising the islands, the "Vaughn" problem went to the back of my mind and I didn't bring it up again. Now, after working long and hard, I finally raised the islands. But what was I going to do now? I had fought against the pressure of the villagers, desperate for me to suceed, and now that I had done so, I had nothing else to do. For now, life was going to long and slow.

"Alright" Mirabelle announced from her spot at the counter. "We are ready to announce the winners of this springs Best Sheep Contest. Please make your way to the finalists on the left side of the Meadow"

People began moving from all over the island, circling the line of sheep. Their eyes brightened at the finalists, who stood beside the animals, hoping that they had won. I sighed softly, asking myself why I hadn't bothered to enter this year. My sheep were more than ready to enter the festival, but when Mirabelle came around the day before to get mine, I said no. I hadn't given a reason, not even an excus.

Julia bounded towards me, a smile on her beautiful face. "Chelsea!" She exclaimed from a few feet away.

I looked over towards my best friend, who now stood in front of me, eyes sparkling. "C'mon! You're going to miss the anouncement!"

I shook my head. "I don't really care." It was true. Winners and Losers of the competition didn't trigger anything in my mind. It was just the same old, same old. One person wins, everyone else cries, end of story. I felt the breeze start up again, and it danced against my skin. I soaked it in, and tried to ignore Julia for the millionth time, but she didn't seem to get the message.

"C'mon" Julia pulled hard on my sleeve, which sent me tumbling down to the ground. I felt the impact sooner than I imagined, which left scrapes on my hand. They stung, and I stood up brushing the dirst off my pants. "I'm gonna kill you!" I lunged for Julia, but she had already left, running towards the crowd of people around the sheep. I followed her at full speed, and slowly started to catch up for her. Before I could grab her by the arm, she dissapeared into the crowd, still laughing. I scowled, slowing down so I didn't bump into anyone. Suddenly, I felt bumped into someone, falling down to the ground. "What the!" The person exclaimed upon impact. "What's your problem?"

I looked up to see Vaughn, wearing his same old face and same old clothes. "Look where you going" He stormed off, walking faster than ever before. I watched him dissapear, before turning back in the direction Julia ran and scanning the crowd. I caught her finally, hiding behind Natalie in the far corner. She was poking her head out, and Natalie was looking at her with a questionable look and her mouth seemed to be moving. I felt an evil glare rise into my eyes. I got up, and slowly walked towards them. As I got closer and closer I plotted what I was going to do to Julia. Maybe I'd throw her off the cliff, and laugh. Or I could break her leg. I laughed quietly to myself, this was going to be one stupid revenge. I got close enough and Julia notcied me. "Ah!" She jumped back.

I put my hand in my rucksak, fishing for Julia's most hated item. A fish.I stopped when my hands felt something slimy and i pulled it. Julia stared at teh itme for a moment, and her eyes widened in shock. "EW! Get that thing away from me" I snickered and slowly approached her. Julia had backed into a tree and had no way of escaping. I hadn't planned on actually touching the fish to her skin, just scare her a little. I stopped a steps away from and smiled. "You know what's gonna happen?"

She squeeled. "No.."

"You know what's going to happen?"

"NO!"

Before I could say anything else, I felt something hit me on the back. "Hey!" It shouted

I jumped in response and the fish flew out of my hand, landing in Julia's hair. "EEEEK!" She screamed, throwing her hands up in the air. "EW! IT'S A FISH! IT'S A FISH! GET IT OFF! NOWWWWWW-"

By now everyone was staring. I could feel their glares as if they were weights that had been thrown on to my head. Mirabelle stood at the counter, arms crossed. She wasn't her normal smiling self, in fact she was frowning instead. I looked behind me, catching Mark's eye. He took the hint and left, leaving me and Julia. Julia continued to scream, not noticing the sudden silence that fell over the crowd of people. I sighed, approaching her and removinh the fish from her hair. "Calm down" I whispered. "It was a joke. Besides, everyone's staring"

She looked around. "Yeah you're right"

Mirabelle stood there for another moment staring at us. Finally she turned around and faced the crowd. "It's time for me to announce this year's winner" Mirabelle stood there for a moment, embracing the silence as an effect. "This year's winner is..." The crowd went silent . "...is Lydia from Mineral Town. Congratulations!" The crowd let out a loud cheer as the farmer walked over to Mirabelle. "Congratulations Lydia. You've wona year supply of fodder for you animals"

I rolled my eyes as I watched the farmer squeel in excitement. Just like I predicted, all the other farmers were crying due to loosing and I yawned. Julia looked at me, unable to find the words to express. We stood there in silence, listening to the follow ups. "C'mon" I finally said, turning my back to the crowd. "Lets get to the diner before everyone else does"

Julia grinned at me and followed my actions. "Lets"

x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.

Every seat in the diner was taken by time the festival had ended. People rushed inside, hoping to find a table and many were dissapointed. Julia and I sat in the far corner sipping our drinks. Lemonade for her, and milk for me. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Lanna and Natalie. I gestured to Julia, who waved them down. They approached us, obviously hungry because they hadn't eaten since this morning. "Hey" They said, sitting down at the table. The four of us rolled our eyes as we started at all the people. "It's way too busy" I anounced. the three girls nodded their heads in agreement adn we continued staring at everyone.

"Lets have a sleepover" Julia exclaimed. She closed her eyes and smiled.

Natalie, Lanna and I looked at each other. We had just slept over at Natalie's the night before, meaning there was no reason to even have a sleepover. "We just had one" I pointed out. I watched Julia as has face changed.

"There's no reason why we can't have another!"

Natalie smirked. "Yeah, you're anti-social slash wierd cousin" We all burst out in laughter, praying deeply inside that Vaughn wasn't here or hadn't heard that remark.

Julia looked at as. Her facial expression suggested that she had taken us way too serious. "Don't worry. He won't interrupt. I'll make sure of it. If he does..." A red light flickered in her eyes as she roled up he sleeves. "He'll personally get the death penalty from me"

I felt another giggle rise on to my lips. Julia made anyone laugh with her pep talks and exagerating speeches. Natalie and Lanna followed my example and started giggling. Pretty soon, the table went silent for a moment, before we all burst out laughing for no reason. I could feel the tears come to my eyes and fall, like a rainy days melted rain. Lanna started snorting like a pig, and Natalie fell on the floor, kicking the ground. After a couple minutes we stopped. There was a small silence between us.

"Lets just go to my place" Julia declared standing up.

"Yeah" I went to stand next to Julia. My hand touched her shoulder lightly. "Or we'll get kicked out"

Life was good for us. As we left the diner, I remebered my accident with Vaughn. I gueess the only question I could ask myself was this: Could I do anything to help?

Well Chelsea, can you? LOL.

Hi everyone! Due to lack of ideas on In The Mirror, I decided to write a different fanfiction to get the ideas flowing in my head again. Anyway, I'm also writing oneshots right now based on character profiles users have created for me. Basically they created a character based on themselves, and answered some questions I needed answered that would help me when writing the oneshot. If you're interested let me know ^.^ (through message, or at the end of our review). Hope you enjoyed the first chapter :). Stay tuned for more.
Here's the fanfic i'm writing to get more ideas for my other Harvest Moon Fanfic In The Mirror. Chapter 1 People! Enjoy! :)
